Manchester City Council appointed Warden to deliver a new café and community hub in Cringle Park, creating a permanent home for Grounded MCR, the independent coffee business and community interest group, which previously operated from a mobile unit.
Grounded MCR play an important role within the local community, offering employment and support to people living with mental health conditions.
The Council’s vision was to create a dedicated space that would allow the business to grow, enhance amenities within the park and encourage connection within the neighbourhood.
The project saw the installation of a high-quality prefabricated modular building, designed to house the new café and provide accessible toilet facilities for all visitors.
Warden carried out the preparatory works needed to support the building’s arrival, including the formation of new drainage and construction of robust foundations and extensive planting and landscaping improvements.
Working within a public park required careful planning, coordination and sensitivity to daily activity, with works programmed to minimise disruption while maintaining close communication with the Council, park representatives and Grounded MCR.
The unit was installed efficiently and safely, creating a fully equipped home for the café that complements recent investments made by the council. It strengthens Cringle Park as a destination for residents and families, while enabling Grounded MCR to continue delivering valuable social impact through training and employment opportunities.
As the project progressed, members of the community were invited to an open day, helping to celebrate the development and ensure residents felt connected to the improvements taking place in their local park.
Warden held a ground-breaking ceremony attended by park representatives, councillors, and a local primary school, and later sponsored an opening event featuring the Lord Mayor and Councillor Paul Andrews.
