Warden Construction’s work on a major decarbonisation project in Manchester has provided added community benefits, thanks to a strong focus on social value outcomes.
This award-winning project saw us construct new solar car ports within two car parking areas at the National Cycling Centre in Sportcity.
The car ports provide shelter for parked vehicles while generating renewable energy for use on site or for the charging of electric vehicles.
However, the benefits didn’t end there as the project supported a number of our social value objectives.
In collaboration with Skills Construction Centre, four members of our team delivered a construction taster day aimed at hard-to-reach groups, including people not in education, employment or training.
We also provided a total of 25 training weeks which supported two trainee quantity surveyors, our Warden trade apprentices and sub-contractor apprentices.
Our colleagues also teamed up with Manchester Central Foodbank via Manchester City Fans Foodbank to deliver a significant food donation.
Warden also collaborated with ISG and the Northwest Construction Hub to organise and take part in a charity cycling event at the Manchester Velodrome which raised £2,465 for We Love Manchester.
Ian Williams, managing director of Warden Construction, said: “It’s been a real pleasure to work on this project, both from a sustainability perspective, but also because of the additional social value benefits we’ve been able to deliver.”
